Field Notes from Dimension X

Preview from a while back

Episode One: Oasis

I have been following the short films and writing of Hollywood based artist Carson Mell for quite a while, and just a couple of months ago he posted the first installment of his series “Field Notes from Dimension X.” It’s got this terrific absurd quality to it.  You can check out the rest of his shorts here. Chonto and the Devil in Denim shorts are pretty brilliant as well.

Neighbors on Rainy Dawg

Finalist-Cover-Art

My friends brother’s band ‘Neighbors‘ had a gig on the local Seattle web based radio station Rainy Dawg today. They are still working on their first record titled Finalist. The recording is kind of crumby but you can have a listen below. They have that whole sloppy garage band thing going on, like a lazy pavement or something.

Here is some of the tracks off their first album with you can download free here.

Basket of Bees
Ms Shelly
Object City
Pornography

Continue reading for the radio performance and a short, awkward interview.

War + Peace + Ipod

Posted in Literature at 11:15 pm by Administrator

warandpeaceI am quite fond of Russian Literature, Dostoevsky, Turgenev and the likes, but have never read a Tolstoy book. I have made several attempts at War and Peace, but I find that the book itself is a bit of a barrier for me. Besides its size, the fact that the book has become so iconic makes it a bit of a cliche to be seen in public with, so many of my attempts at the book have been made in the small amount of time I spend at home. Recently I purchased an ipod touch, which has a free app which will download literature from www.gutenberg.org and display them as e-books. I loaded it up last night with all my faves, and plan to use it to try to put away this Russian tome once and for all. Will post a review once my mind has consumed it.

Christopher Smith – Gently Gently from Boompa Records on Vimeo.

Saw this the other day on another blog and thought it was quite beautiful. The only thing that moves is the camera and the snow. Its weird in such a good way.

I have been listening to this album quite a bit, and I have to say that I can’t find anything wrong with it. A terrifically well rounded album.

Opiates, Opioids and Freebases

freebases

Morphine is a painkiller derived from the poppy plant. The naturally derived form of morphine from the poppy plant is what defines it as an opiate. For the last 200 years morphine has been used as one of the most effective painkillers we know of, interacting directly with the central nervous systems pain receptors.
